Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has launched a Ksh100 million bursary kitty aimed at supporting needy students across the county for the second term.

Speaking during the launch event attended by county leaders, education officials, clergy and residents, the governor said the bursary programme was part of his administration’s commitment to ensure that no child is locked out of education due to lack of school fees.

Wamatangi announced that beneficiaries will receive between Ksh5,000 and Ksh10,000, while some vulnerable learners will be awarded full scholarships to enable them complete their studies uninterrupted.

“We have launched a Ksh100 million bursary kitty, which is the last bunch of this financial year’s disbursements to pay school fees for needy students for the second term,” said the governor.

“Each beneficiary will receive between Ksh5,000 and Ksh10,000, while others will get full scholarships. The disbursements will be done fairly and with integrity to ensure that only deserving students benefit,” he added.

The students who are the bursary beneficiaries lauded the county boss for launching the bursary kitty, which they described as a boost to their education.

Education officials present at the function praised the bursary initiative, describing it as one of the county government’s most impactful programmes.

County education CECM Mercy Njagi said the bursary fund had improved transition rates from primary to secondary schools and from secondary schools to colleges and universities.

Njagi noted that many students from vulnerable backgrounds had managed to attain quality education and secure opportunities for higher learning because of the financial support.

She further lauded the county government’s investment in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), saying the administration had made significant progress in improving learning infrastructure and access to education.

Several MCAs and county officials who attended the ceremony reiterated the county government’s commitment to transparency in the bursary allocation process to ensure deserving students from all wards benefit fairly.

The bursary programme forms part of Kiambu County’s broader education support initiatives targeting vulnerable learners, students from low-income families and persons living with disabilities.
