Jasmine Wangechi, the best-performing pupil from Kerugoya Municipality Schools in Kirinyaga County, has revealed that her ambition to become a pilot was inspired by Captain Savirmaria Ondego, the Kenya Airways pilot who commanded flight KQ203/RAO001 from India to Kenya carrying the body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The emotional and historic moment, she said, showed her what women in aviation can achieve.
Jasmine Wangechi Wang’ondu said watching Captain Ondego take charge of such a significant flight strengthened her belief that women can excel in highly demanding fields, including aviation. “It was inspiring to see a woman with such big dreams fly a large Boeing aircraft. That moment encouraged me to pursue my dream of becoming a pilot and hopefully a captain like her in the future,” she said.
