Kericho Township National TVC delivered a spectacular performance at the recently concluded KATTI National Athletics Championships held at Nyayo National Stadium, winning seven medals and contributing significantly to South Rift Region’s second-place finish overall.
The institution’s 20-member athletics team returned home with seven medals comprising three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
The performance helped South Rift Region finish second overall with seven gold, seven silver and six bronze medals.
Gold Medal Winners
Jonathan Tangaya opened the championships in style by winning gold in the men’s 10,000 metres, one of Kenya’s most celebrated athletics events on the global stage.
Mercy Chepkirui secured gold in the women’s 10,000 metres, while Mercy Chebet Biegon earned silver in the same race.

The pair delivered a memorable performance and set a new championship record in the event.
Tabitha Chelangat later added a third gold medal after triumphing in the women’s 400 metres hurdles.
Silver and Bronze Success
Naomi Chepngetich produced an impressive performance to claim silver in the women’s 200 metres.
In the women’s 5,000 metres, Daphine Jepkogei Kiptoo secured a bronze medal to extend the institution’s dominance in long-distance races.
Edith Chepkemoi completed the medal haul with a bronze medal in the women’s hurdles event.
Kericho Township National TVC Principal Shadrack Tonui praised the athletes for their commitment and determination.
“For Kericho Township TVC, this was more than just participation. It was a rewarding performance that demonstrated hard work, discipline and resilience. We are proud of our athletes for bringing honour to the institution,” he said.
Excellence Beyond Sports
The institution noted that its success extends beyond athletics.
In recent national examinations and assessments, the college recorded an 82 per cent pass rate in KNEC examinations and an 87 per cent pass rate in CDACC assessments.
School officials said the strong academic and sporting performance reflects the institution’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded learners.

The championships not only delivered success for South Rift Region but also inspired a new generation of athletes within the TVET sector.
The institution expressed confidence that the athletes will continue to excel and represent both the region and the country in future competitions.
