Kenya has been crowned overall champions of the 2026 FEASSSA Games held in Morogoro, Tanzania, after topping the secondary schools’ medal standings with a commanding performance across a wide range of disciplines.

Team Kenya finished the regional showpiece with 47 medals in total, comprising 20 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze, edging out closest rivals Uganda, who collected 18 gold, 22 silver and 16 bronze medals.

Host nation Tanzania settled for third place with four gold, four silver and nine bronze medals, while Rwanda rounded out the top four with one gold, one silver and five bronze medals.

Kenya’s triumph was anchored on strong showings across a broad spread of sporting disciplines, including volleyball, basketball 3×3, handball, hockey, rugby, athletics, cross country, tennis, chess, scrabble, beach volleyball and lacrosse.

The depth of that dominance was evident in events such as girls’ hockey and boys’ rugby 7s, where Kenyan teams swept the podium by claiming gold, silver and bronze, while the girls’ cross country event also produced a gold medal for the country.

Officials and observers linked Kenya’s success to the breadth of disciplines the country’s schools competed in, noting that spreading investment across multiple sports rather than concentrating on a handful of traditional disciplines has continued to pay off at regional level.

The performance in Morogoro has further highlighted the depth of sporting talent within Kenyan secondary schools, adding another proud chapter to the country’s history in regional school sports competitions and reinforcing its standing as a powerhouse in East and Southern Africa school sports.
