Kabete National Polytechnic has signed a Memorandum of Service with Rift Valley Institute of Business Studies (RVIBS), marking a significant step toward expanding Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment and certification services across Nakuru and the South Rift region.

The partnership brings together two established Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions with a shared goal of making formal skills recognition more accessible to workers in the region.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will collaborate in five key areas; capacity building, assessment, certification, quality assurance and the promotion of skills recognition in line with national standards.

The deal is expected to create more opportunities for individuals to gain formal recognition of skills, knowledge and experience acquired outside the conventional classroom, whether through work experience, informal training, or hands-on practice in various trades.

RVIBS is a registered TVET institution based in Nakuru, offering programmes across Agriculture, Business Studies, Health Sciences and Engineering, and aligns its training with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. Founded in 2006, the institution has since grown to operate six campuses across three counties.

Kabete National Polytechnic, one of Kenya’s foremost RPL assessment centres, has been at the forefront of advancing skills recognition nationally. At its 6th graduation ceremony in February 2026, the polytechnic conferred awards upon graduates drawn from both formal and RPL learning pathways for the first time, demonstrating its growing commitment to flexible and inclusive education.

The partnership reinforces the institutions’ shared vision of enhancing employability, lifelong learning, and workforce development in the region.
