Many schools in West Pokot County were joyful when Ministry of Education (MoE) started distributing food to them this month.

This is a great relief to many learners who have been having one meal or none per day due to the hot weather that has affected most of the Arid and Semi-Arid areas of Kenya since last year.

As soon as the lorry carrying the feeding programme entered the gate of Tampalal Pri. School, the air was filled with ululation from the jovial learners.

The school received bags of rice, beans, cooking oil and porridge floor. Nehemiah Kibet, the learners president, thanked the MoE for the great gesture to learners.

‘’With a feeding programme in school, we will put more effort into our studies as the effect of hunger will subside.

Also, learners absenteeism will be something of the past, said Kibet, the learner’s president.

Learners absenteeism will be curbed.

Board of Members led by head teacher Christine Lotee, expressed their gratitude to the MoE for initiating the feeding programme this term, stating that it is a significant relief for learners from hunger.
