Students at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) are raising concerns over what they describe as sudden increases in fee balances just days before the university’s graduation ceremony scheduled for Friday, August 14, 2026.
Several students have reported that their fee balances have unexpectedly increased by between Sh3,000 and Sh15,000, leaving those preparing to graduate scrambling to raise additional funds.
The affected students allege that the new charges have been reflected on their accounts without adequate explanation and, in some cases, do not include the separate graduation fee.
The timing of the alleged adjustments has heightened anxiety among finalists, who say they have little time to seek clarification or resolve discrepancies with the university’s finance department.
Some students fear that failure to clear the newly indicated balances could prevent them from being cleared for graduation, despite having previously believed they had settled their fees.
The reports have also revived longstanding concerns among some JKUAT students about the management of academic and financial records.
Students seek urgent intervention
Students have called on the university administration to urgently review the affected accounts, explain the basis of the additional charges and ensure that genuine errors are corrected before the graduation ceremony.
The university is yet to publicly respond to the allegations or clarify whether the reported increases are the result of system adjustments, outstanding charges or errors in students’ accounts.

With the graduation ceremony only a day away, affected students are now seeking urgent intervention to ensure that financial record discrepancies do not derail what should be a major milestone in their academic journey.
