Oriwo Boys senior School in Homa Bay County has announced; it will host its Annual Mathematics Contest and Symposium on May 24, 2026, drawing secondary schools from across the region in a bid to boost academic performance and promote excellence in mathematics.
According to an official invitation issued by the institution, the one-day event will begin at 7:00 a.m. at the school’s Kandiege campus. It will feature two competitive categories: a Senior section for Form Four students and a Junior section for Form Three students.
Organizers say each participating school will present teams of 10 students, with the option of registering multiple teams. Form Four candidates will also be allowed to compete in both categories, a move aimed at strengthening their preparation for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
“The competition is structured to provide intensive practice and expose learners to a wide range of mathematical concepts,” the notice reads in part.
The Senior category will test content drawn from the Form Three and Form Four syllabus, while the Junior category will focus on Form One and Form Two work. Each team will be required to pay a registration fee of Ksh 2,000 to cover facilitation, certification, and awards.

Schools have been advised to make their own arrangements for meals and necessary mathematical materials for their students during the event.
In addition to the contest, participants will have access to revision materials authored by educationists, including Senior Principal Tom Amadi and Fredrick Oraro. The books, tailored for Mathematics Papers 1 and 2, will retail at Ksh 600 each, while a CORE Mathematics guide will be available at Ksh 800.
The school has set May 18, 2026, as the deadline for confirmation of participation to allow for logistical planning.
Education stakeholders in Homa Bay County have welcomed the initiative, citing its role in fostering healthy academic competition and strengthening students’ problem-solving skills.
Oriwo Boys National School, whose vision is to be a center of excellence in performance and reputation, continues to position itself as a key player in advancing academic standards through such initiatives.
