Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has handed over 2,000 chairs to 17 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres in West Sang’alo Ward, in a move aimed at improving learning conditions for children at the foundational level.
The distribution of the furniture is part of the county government’s efforts to address infrastructure and equipment needs in ECDE centres across Bungoma. Lusaka presided over the handover as his administration enters the final stretch of its tenure, with education infrastructure remaining one of the key areas of focus in the county’s development programmes.
The 2,000 chairs are expected to benefit learners in the 17 centres, many of which require adequate classroom facilities to support effective teaching and learning. The intervention comes amid growing emphasis on early childhood education as a critical stage in a child’s development, providing the foundation upon which learners build basic academic and social skills before transitioning to primary school.

Speaking during the handover, Lusaka underscored the importance of providing children with a conducive learning environment, saying investments in early education would have a long-term impact on the county’s human capital development. The governor’s administration has in recent years prioritised support for ECDE centres through infrastructure development and provision of learning materials and equipment.
Education officials and local leaders accompanying the governor welcomed the intervention, noting that adequate furniture is an essential component of a functional classroom. The chairs will also ease pressure on centres where learners have been forced to share limited furniture or use unsuitable facilities during lessons.
The latest intervention adds to a series of education-related projects being implemented by the county government as Lusaka’s tenure approaches its final phase. For parents and teachers in West Sang’alo, the delivery of the furniture is expected to improve the day-to-day learning experience and provide young learners with better classroom facilities.
