Kenya is poised to adopt a fully digital education ecosystem, with Google Kenya collaborating with schools and key education stakeholders to enhance learning through technology.
With projections indicating that Kenya—and Africa more broadly—will play a significant role in the global economy over the next 25 years due to its youthful population, the push for digital literacy from early education levels has gained urgency.
“It is important to equip the younger generations, from an early age, on the need to embrace technological changes,” one of the programme proponents noted.
As part of the initiative, schools will soon adopt a digitised learning model where learners will interact with Competency-Based Education (CBE) content using Google Chromebooks. The devices, preloaded with educational material through a partnership with Longhorn Publishers, will offer pupils an immersive digital experience.
“Learners will get an opportunity to interact with others in the world using the same content and thus bring the world closer home,” a spokesperson added.

The programme will officially kick off with a pilot phase in July, with more schools expected to join in Term Three and early next year.
In collaboration with NCBA’s Loop platform, the project will allow parents or schools to acquire the devices via a flexible “lipa pole pole” payment plan, making the technology accessible amid challenging economic conditions.
Looking to the long term, Google and its partners have committed to supporting this digital transition through to 2050, starting with pre-primary learners and guiding them to university, ensuring they are well-prepared for the modern workforce.
