Members of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Laikipia County have elected Jediel Kimathi as the branch chairperson in a repeat election held on July 4, 2026, bringing to an end months of leadership uncertainty following a disputed poll.

The repeat election was ordered after the branch elections held on February 28, 2026, were challenged in court by a group of aspirants led by Robert Miano. The petition prompted the court to stop the registration of the officials declared winners pending the determination of the case.

Following the dispute, KUPPET directed Laikipia and nine other branches—Kitui, Mombasa, Kirinyaga, Nairobi, Kericho, Murang’a, Lamu, Garissa and Uasin Gishu—to conduct fresh elections.

Speaking after the declaration of results, delegates congratulated the newly elected officials and urged members to embrace unity and work together to strengthen the union after months of internal leadership wrangles.
