Former Kisumu national polytechnic students die in demos

SCHOOLS PROTESTS

Two former Kisumu national polytechnic students are feared dead following the chaos that rocked Kisumu town and its environs during protests called by Azimio La Umoja coalition.

One of the former students was reportedly shot in Nyamasaria area while another one was shot in Manyatta.

Sources said scores of former students were arrested and charged in court with robbery with violence.

The sources further indicated that another student sustained serious burns in Manyatta while purchasing fish.

Polytechnic chief principal Catherine Kelonye said all of them are former students of the institution who sat their examinations and left the institution.

Meanwhile, education office officials in Kisumu County said the three-day protests have affected the school calendar in the area.

County Director of Education Rosemary Birenge said most activities and learning stalled during the protests.
