JSS teachers in Trans Mara in Narok County have vowed to have continuous protests until their demands are fully met by TSC.
The teachers want TSC to confirm them on permanent and pensionable (P&P) terms and compensate them as ordered by the court.
Speaking in Emurua Dikkr, they complained of long distances to their work stations and the high cost of living, even as they said the court had fuelled their agitation by declaring internships illegal.
“Just last year, the president promised that we would be absorbed into P&P after one year. But instead of doing that, they are extending the internship period. Tis is unacceptable,” said one of the teachers.
The interns now want President William Ruto to honour his promise, saying the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is now under threat.
Branch KUPPET Secretary Charles Ng’eno defended the tutors, saying their demands must be addressed if the government means good for CBC.
Ng’eno further wants the government to give an employment roadmap, arguing that the Ksh17,000 salary was insufficient considering the workloads of the teachers.
“These teachers suffer a lot. Honestly speaking, Ksh17,000 salary is not enough. If the government really means well for the CBC learners, it should heed to the demands of these teachers. What is important is for TSC to give a roadmap on how this will be attained,” added Ng’eno.
