Form Four student in Homa Bay detained for allegedly killing his mother

Detectives in Mbita Police Station are holding a Form Four student over allegations of murdering his mother.

Preliminary investigations indicate the 16-year-old student at Nyatoto Mixed Secondary School killed his mother using a machete after strangling her at their home in at Kitare Village, Homa Bay County.

Confirming the incident, Kayanja Sub Location Assistant Chief Moses Sirawa, said the suspect arrived home from school, on Thursday, June 6 evening and attacked his mother on the spot after evening meal.

“The suspect strangled the victim and then attacked her with a machete for reasons that are still unknown,” he said.

According to Sirawa, the investigators believe that the boy may have committed the terrible act because of mental problems.

Community members who heard the commotion at the home of the suspect are reported to have rushed to the scene where they found the body of the slain mother enveloped in blood and apprehended the student before handing him to the police.

Nelis Ogutu was 39 years old who at the time of her death and was a widow after the passing of her husband some years back.

The body of the deceased is at Kirindo mortuary as police continue with the investigations.
