As celebrations on the appointment of Wilson Sossion, the former tough-talking KNUT Secretary General, are on-going, a section of Garissa tutors feel that he was better suited for the education docket.
Sossion, a dedicated former physics and chemistry classroom teacher holds education close to his heart. Besides being a successful classroom teacher, Sossion switched to be one of the most successful trade unionist where he served as an effective firebrand KNUT Secretary General from 2013 to 2021.
Diriye Bare, a teacher in Legdera sub county in Garissa says the former KNUT SG had better fish to fry being nominated in the education docket as Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS) instead of the tourism docket.
“Of course we may not have been exposed to know some of his talents, but since he often championed various education policies, I believe he was better suited in the education doecket,’’ said Bare.
Reacting to the reports that, President Ruto has rewarded Sossion amongst other loyalists and election failures, Mohamed Masud, a teacher in Dadaab sub county argues that, the fact that one has lost an election, neither makes one a lesser being nor limits ones intellectual and professional abilities.
He says one can lose elections and go on to serve his people and the country successfully in many useful ways.
Denying that the likes of Sossion have been appointed for political gains, Masud further argues that the ministry of wildlife and tourism is bedevilled with poaching and bush meat.
“In this respect, the former KNUT SG, a successful tutor, stands better in educating the wardens and the populace of limiting these damaging vices injuring the tourism industry,’’ he said.
