Fesbeth Academy, celebrated for its dominance at the National Drama Festivals, is making a bold new statement on the rugby pitch as it prepares for the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Western Region games at Bungoma High School from July 7 to 11, 2026.

Fesbeth Academy Director Oliver Minishi revealed that the school’s girls rugby programme was born from a deliberate recruitment drive targeting a primary school that was already excelling in the sport, with the director personally offering the players full scholarships covering boarding and tuition to join Fesbeth Academy.

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has partnered with the school to provide equipment including balls and uniforms, further strengthening the programme ahead of its first major regional competition.

Minishi pushed back strongly against institutions that sacrifice student well-being for academic rankings, arguing that schools which discourage participation in co-curricular activities in pursuit of higher mean grades are ultimately failing their students.

The Western Region games will draw some of the most competitive schools in rugby from across the region to Bungoma High School, with past editions featuring fierce battles among established giants.

Winners and top-performing teams from the regional championships will advance to the national games, widely regarded as the country’s most competitive secondary school sports event.
