Former Bobasi Constituency MP Stephen Manoti has decried the poor state of schools in the constituency.

Manoti questioned the work of the NG-CDF committee, noting that since he took power eight years ago, his NG-CDF office has never completed any education development, except for one at Mochengo Primary School.

“This slow way of doing things cannot help the constituency to develop,” he said.

He thanked President William Ruto for visiting the constituency recently. He said the President pledged Sh20 million to assist Suguta Girls with the improvement of its classrooms.

The legislator reminded that good classrooms are central to effective learning and overall school performance. Well-constructed classrooms provide a safe, comfortable space where learners can concentrate without distractions from leaking roofs, dust, or harsh weather. In the cold, wet climate of Bobasi, proper roofing, windows, and flooring protect students’ health and reduce absenteeism.

Adequate classrooms also ease congestion. When learners are not squeezed onto broken desks, teachers can move freely, give individual attention, and implement Competency-Based Curriculum activities effectively. Spacious, well-lit rooms improve participation and make practical lessons possible.

For girls’ schools like Suguta, secure and dignified classrooms are especially critical. They create a sense of privacy and safety that helps keep girls in school and reduces dropout rates. Good infrastructure also boosts teacher morale and attracts qualified staff, while giving parents confidence to enrol their children.

Manoti commended Kisii County Governor Simba Arati for starting a milk feeding programme for early learning children. He said the initiative will improve the health of children and increase enrollment in schools.

He appealed to residents to work with the government of the day. He discouraged divisive politics, saying it retards development.
