Parents in Kakamega County have been urged to take advantage of government funding and enroll their children in public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

Josephat Wanyangu, Director of Khaunga Integrated Youth Activities (KIYA), made this appeal during a recent meeting with students in Butsotso East ward, Lurambi constituency.

“In today’s job market, practical skills are invaluable. By embracing vocational education, we can equip our youth with the tools they need to thrive and secure fulfilling careers,” he said.

He noted that the meeting was an effort of the ‘Jisalimie Education Initiative’ which is dedicated to supporting students by enhancing their academic and vocational pursuits.

“Government funding is a golden opportunity that shouldn’t be overlooked. I encourage every parent to explore these options for their children,” he stated.

Wanyangu disclosed that KIYA was in partnership with the Ministry of Education to ensure students in the area were aware of how to access the funding.

The Director stressed the importance of utilizing available resources, highlighting the growing recognition of vocational education as a viable pathway to employment and entrepreneurship.

“Fields like plumbing, electrical work and hospitality are not just trades; they are stepping stones to stable jobs and self-sufficiency. Let’s empower our children to become skilled professionals who can contribute positively to our communities,” he explained.
