On May 20, 2026, Laban Kirui, the KUPPET Kajiado Branch Organizing Secretary, addressed the Mashuuru Sub-county Education Stakeholders Meeting, which brought together heads of institutions, officials from teachers’ unions including KNUT and KUPPET, representatives from the Ministry of Education (MoE), the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), and other key education stakeholders.
Speaking during the forum, Kirui commended the organizers for creating a platform that promotes dialogue and collaboration among education stakeholders.
He encouraged stakeholders to institutionalize such engagement meetings, noting that they provide an opportunity to address emerging challenges, share experiences, and strengthen partnerships aimed at improving education outcomes.
On matters affecting Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), Kirui urged heads of institutions, particularly those managing primary schools and JSS sections, to embrace mentorship and professional support for the young JSS teachers under their leadership.
“Our young JSS teachers need guidance, mentorship, and a conducive working environment to thrive professionally. School administrators should support and nurture them rather than engage in unnecessary conflicts that undermine teamwork and service delivery,” he said.
Kirui further reaffirmed his commitment to the ongoing push for Junior Secondary School autonomy, emphasizing that the quest for a clear administrative and operational framework for JSS remains a key priority.
He reiterated his resolve to continue advocating for the welfare, professional dignity, and rights of all teachers.
The union official also called on education stakeholders to prioritize their mental wellbeing, especially as the country continues to observe Mental Health Awareness Month.
“As educators and leaders, we must be intentional about our mental health. Let us support one another, seek help when necessary, and create healthy working environments that promote both productivity and personal wellbeing,” he added.
The meeting underscored the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement in addressing educational challenges and advancing the interests of learners, teachers, and institutions across the sub-county.
