The Elgeyo Marakwet County Secondary Schools Sports Association (EMCSSSA) has nullified the result of the county secondary schools football final between Kipsoen Boys and Kimuron Boys after investigations established that both teams fielded ineligible players in violation of Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) competition regulations.
The decision was communicated in an official statement issued by the association following a review of appeals lodged by both schools after the final match.
The appeals jury found both teams culpable of breaching player eligibility regulations, prompting disciplinary action that has significantly altered the outcome of the county football championship.
As a result, EMCSSSA announced that the final match between Kipsoen Boys and Kimuron Boys had been nullified and its result would not stand.
To determine the county champions, the association has recalled Kamoi Secondary School and St Mary’s Kitany Secondary School to replay the final.
The match is scheduled for July 1, 2026, at Iten Grounds, with kick-off set for 2:00 p.m.
The winner will represent Elgeyo Marakwet County at the forthcoming Rift Valley regional secondary schools games in Narok.
Integrity of school sports
The ruling marks a dramatic turn in the county football competition and underscores the importance of strict adherence to KSSSA player eligibility regulations.
School sports officials have consistently emphasised the need for institutions to field only eligible players in order to safeguard the integrity and fairness of school competitions.
The association said further details regarding the ruling and any additional directives would be communicated to the affected schools through the Elgeyo Marakwet County Director of Education.
The decision has generated widespread discussion among students, teachers, coaches and sports stakeholders across the county, with attention now shifting to the highly anticipated replay between Kamoi Secondary School and St Mary’s Kitany Secondary School.
