Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has praised President William Ruto for allocating KSh784 billion to the education sector, describing it as the highest education budget since Kenya attained independence.

Speaking during the 60th anniversary celebrations of Burieruri Boys High School in Igembe Central Constituency, Meru County, Kindiki said the allocation demonstrates the Government’s commitment to making education the cornerstone of national development.

Kindiki said the record allocation reflects President Ruto’s determination to strengthen the education sector through sustained investment and reforms.

“This year, the President has invested KSh784 billion in education to demonstrate that the sector remains a central pillar of our national development,” he said.

The Deputy President said the Government has consistently implemented reforms aimed at improving access, quality and competitiveness in education.

He cited the implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE), the recruitment of 100,000 teachers, increased funding for the sector, the construction of more than 23,000 classrooms and ongoing reforms to the higher education funding model.

“All these reforms are intended to improve and make our education system more competitive, relevant, accessible and affordable for as many children as possible,” he said.

Appeal for discipline

Kindiki urged learners to embrace dialogue whenever they encounter challenges instead of engaging in acts of indiscipline that could jeopardise their education and future.

He said schools should remain safe learning environments where disputes are resolved peacefully through constructive engagement.

The Deputy President also expressed confidence that Meru County would continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration in future elections.
