A family has been plunged into double grief following a tragic road accident at Kariandusi along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway, where a mother lost her life and her husband sustained serious injuries while they were rushing to Utumishi Girls Senior School in Gilgil, Nakuru County, after receiving news of a dormitory fire.

According to police reports, the couple had set out urgently after being informed that their daughter was among the students affected by the fire incident at the school in Gilgil.

Their journey, however, ended in tragedy when their vehicle was involved in a fatal crash at Kariandusi.

The mother died on the spot due to the impact of the collision, while her husband was rushed to hospital with severe injuries.

Emergency responders and traffic police arrived at the scene shortly after the accident to manage the situation and clear the wreckage.

In a tragic twist of fate, authorities confirmed that the couple’s daughter survived the dormitory fire with minor injuries and is receiving treatment and psychosocial support at a medical facility.

The incident has deepened the anguish surrounding the Utumishi Girls fire tragedy, which has already left several families struggling with loss, injuries, and emotional trauma.

Parents who had gathered at the school and nearby hospitals described the situation as heartbreaking and overwhelming.

Police have launched investigations into the cause of the road accident even as calls continue for calm and support for affected families.
