The Ministry of Education (MoE) has headlined a fresh round of appointments and reappointments announced in the latest Kenya Gazette published on July 17, 2026, as the government continues strengthening leadership across key public institutions responsible for education, healthcare, water resources, mining and county governance.

Leading the appointments to several Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) under the Ministry of Education is the reappointment of Prof. Ahmed Kibet Ferej as Chairperson of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council for a further three-year term.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba also renewed the appointments of Prof. Andrew Rasugu Otachi Riechi and Kibiwott Munge to the Governing Council of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), while appointing Margaret Njaggah as a new member of the council.

The appointments come as Kenya continues implementing Competency-Based Education (CBE), expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and reviewing curriculum reforms aimed at equipping learners with practical, industry-driven skills.

The renewed leadership is expected to strengthen curriculum development, quality assurance and certification while ensuring policy continuity.

Health sector appointments

In the health sector, Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed new members to the Council of the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute and the Public Health Officers and Technicians Council.

He also appointed Dr Charles Jakait Sangalo to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.

The appointments, which took effect on July 17, 2026, are intended to strengthen professional regulation, governance and oversight within Kenya’s healthcare system.

The Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation also announced changes to the National Irrigation Authority Board.

Cabinet Secretary Eric Muriithi Mugaa reappointed Mary Kanana Mwiti and Ubah Kahiye, while appointing Gilbert Bwire Wangalwa as a new board member.

The changes are expected to support the government’s efforts to expand irrigation, boost agricultural productivity and enhance food security.

Mining licence applications published

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs published several applications for mining and prospecting licences in Kilifi, Makueni, Bomet and Kakamega counties.

Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho invited members of the public and affected communities to submit comments or objections within the prescribed period before any licences are approved, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transparency and public participation.

Among the applications is a proposal by Leibra Investments Limited to mine manganese in Kilifi County, while Kilungu Kaolin Limited has applied for a prospecting licence to explore tremolite deposits in Makueni County.

At the county level, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir appointed Bennette Nzamba as Chairperson of the Mombasa County Elimu Scheme Board.

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai appointed Peter Lolem Ekuwom as Chairperson of the County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee.

The Judiciary also announced the annual Court of Appeal August recess, which will run from August 1 to September 15, 2026.

Acting President of the Court of Appeal Justice Wanjiru Karanja said court registries will remain open on weekdays between 9.00 a.m. and noon to receive urgent filings, while judges will remain available to hear matters requiring immediate attention.

The latest edition of the Kenya Gazette also contains statutory notices on provisional land title certificates, environmental impact assessment reports, public finance matters, insolvency proceedings, disposal of court records and official changes of names.

The Kenya Gazette remains the government’s principal legal publication, providing official communication on appointments, policy decisions, regulatory actions and statutory notices.
