The higher education sector in Baringo county has received a big boost after the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Simon Chelugui officially opened the Scott Christian University – Eldama Ravine campus.

Speaking while presiding over the launch on June 18, Chelugui said the university will bring light to the county which has been struggling with the banditry menace in the recent past.

“The establishment of the Scott Christian University, a private learning institution in Baringo County will provide opportunities for local students to access higher education without the need to travel long distances to other parts of the country. It will also create job opportunities for the locals and boost the local economy,” he said.

The CS said that the new campus is part of the university’s efforts to expand its reach and provide quality education to more students in the country and beyond.

The university has already established campuses in Machakos, Kitale and Malindi, as well as a virtual campus that offers online courses and programmes.

Chelugui said the government will fully support the institution as it embarks in shaping the youth who are the future.

“The Kenya Kwanza administration recognizes that education is a fundamental human right and a key enabler of poverty reduction, economic growth, and social progress,” he said.

The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields such as theology, business, education and community development.
