The teaching fraternity of Kisii and Kisumu Counties was stunned when they learned about the death of their colleague.
The principal of Rakwaro Secondary school in Kisumu County Peter Maina died yesterday.
He was transferred there last from Maiga Secondary school in Kisii County.
According to his wife, her husband started complaining of body pains and fatigue on Friday evening. He was taken to Oginga Odinga Jaramogi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
He was diagnosed suffering from Covid-19.
He succumbed to the disease yesterday as he underwent treatment. “He died of cardiac arrest complications”, confirmed the Hospital Medical Officer Dr. Nelson Rono.
Among those who visited his Nyacheki home yesterday to console the family, is the recently elected Kisii branch KUPPET Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha.
The unionists asked the TSC to cushion its employees with a special insurance cover to enable their families continue with life after the departure of their loved ones.
“The Corona virus pandemic is a big threat especially to teachers who need extra cover to fight the disease”, he said.
His untimely death comes five months after the principal of Oyugi Ogango Secondary school in Homabay County Martha Ouma, succumbed to the similar circumstances related to Corona virus scourge.
