Tears have engulfed a family in Chuka, Tharaka Nithi county, following the death of their daughter, Virginia Gacheri, in Qatar.
The distraught family is appealing for financial assistance to raise Sh1 million required to repatriate her remains from the Gulf country and give her a dignified burial at home.
Gacheri travelled to Qatar about four years ago in search of employment, hoping to improve the lives of her family and secure a better future for her young children.
Her sudden death has, however, left her relatives devastated and facing the difficult task of bringing her body home while grappling with the financial burden associated with repatriation.
The family says the Sh1 million will cater for logistical arrangements and airfare required to transport her remains from Qatar to Kenya.
An Appeal for Help
Beyond the grief caused by her death, the family is also worried about the welfare of the young children she leaves behind. The children depended on their mother for financial and emotional support.
Relatives have appealed to well-wishers, leaders, friends and humanitarian organisations to come to their aid and help raise the money needed to bring Gacheri’s body home.
They said their immediate priority was to ensure that she is returned to Kenya and accorded a dignified burial as the family comes to terms with the loss.
The family is also appealing to Kenyans at home and abroad to support the repatriation effort, saying any contribution would help ease the financial burden during the difficult period.

The family hopes to raise the Sh1 million needed to facilitate the repatriation process and allow Gacheri to be laid to rest among her loved ones in Chuka.
