Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) has indefinitely closed Chesamisi high school in Kimilili, Bungoma County, after students allegedly went on a rampage following their team’s 2-1 semi-final defeat to St Peters Nakalira Boys during zonal football games.

According to reports, the unrest erupted shortly after the tense match, with angry students reportedly vandalising property at Kamusinde Boys High School, where the games were being hosted.

Witnesses said classrooms and other school facilities were damaged as the situation quickly got out of control.

The students are also accused of destroying crops in a nearby sugarcane plantation, leaving local farmers counting losses.

The incident caused panic among residents and forced organisers to suspend all remaining matches scheduled to take place at the venue.

No serious injuries were immediately reported during the chaos, although tension remained high in the area.

Education officials condemned the violence, describing it as unfortunate and against the spirit of sportsmanship expected during school competitions.

They urged students to embrace discipline, tolerance and peaceful conduct regardless of match outcomes

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with authorities expected to take disciplinary action against those found responsible for the destruction.
