  • Teachers from five Central Region counties will compete in the sixth edition of the KUPPET Central Region Tournament at Kianyaga Secondary School.
  • The three-day event will feature football, volleyball, basketball, handball, racquet games and board games.
  • Organisers say the tournament promotes unity, wellness and professional networking among teachers.

Teachers from five Central Region counties are set to converge at Kianyaga Secondary School in Kirinyaga County for the sixth edition of the Central Region Tournament scheduled for August 7–9.

The annual event, sponsored by Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) branches from Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Murang’a counties, is expected to attract hundreds of participants competing in football, volleyball, basketball, handball, racquet games and board games.

Organisers say the tournament has become an important platform for promoting unity, wellness and talent among teachers while strengthening professional bonds across the region.

Unlike conventional sports competitions, the event combines both physical and mental disciplines, giving participants an opportunity to showcase their abilities in team sports as well as strategic games such as chess and other board games.

Tournament officials noted that the championship continues to grow in popularity, with more teams expressing interest in participating each year.

Registration underway

Registration for football teams has been set at Sh3,000, while volleyball, basketball and handball teams will pay Sh2,000.

Participants in racquet and board games will register individually at Sh500.

Organisers have urged teams to complete their registration before the July 31 deadline to facilitate smooth planning and scheduling of fixtures.

Beyond competition, the tournament is expected to provide a platform for networking, experience-sharing and strengthening professional relationships among teachers from the five participating counties.
