- Cardinal Otunga High School completed an unbeaten campaign to claim the 2026 FEASSA Rugby 7s title.
- The Red City Boys demolished Uganda’s Busoga College 41–0 to seal the regional championship in Morogoro.
- Their triumph comes after suffering a 26–0 defeat to Butula Boys in the KSSSA national final.
Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, have completed a remarkable turnaround by winning the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSA) Rugby 7s Boys’ Championship in Morogoro, Tanzania, after an impressive unbeaten campaign.
The Red City Boys sealed the regional crown in emphatic fashion, defeating Uganda’s Busoga College 41–0 in the final to finish the competition with six wins from six matches.
Their journey in Morogoro began with a 12–0 victory over Bokoli before they produced an attacking masterclass against Elerai, winning 31–5. Cardinal Otunga then faced a familiar Kenyan opponent in Butula Boys, edging the national champions 17–14 in a thrilling regional encounter.
The Mosocho side maintained their winning momentum with a narrow 17–15 victory over Uganda’s Mbarara High School before comfortably overcoming Makerere College School 27–7. In the final, they saved their most dominant performance for last, sweeping aside Busoga College 41–0 to claim the East African championship.
The FEASSA triumph is particularly significant given Cardinal Otunga’s disappointment at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national championships earlier in August.
The school had reached the Rugby 7s final at M-Pesa Foundation Academy in Thika, Kiambu County, where they suffered a heavy 26–0 defeat against Butula Boys, who went on to claim the national title.
However, Cardinal Otunga responded brilliantly on the regional stage. They faced Butula again in Morogoro and this time emerged 17–14 winners, demonstrating their resilience and determination to bounce back from the national final disappointment.
The Red City Boys then continued their winning run, defeating Mbarara High School 17–15, Makerere College School 27–7 and finally Busoga College 41–0 in the championship decider.
Six wins from six
Across their six FEASSA matches, Cardinal Otunga scored 145 points and conceded only 41, underlining their attacking strength and defensive resilience.
Their triumph crowns the Mosocho-based school as the 2026 East African Rugby 7s champions and provides a memorable response to their national final setback.
From a 26–0 defeat against Butula Boys in the KSSSA final to a commanding 41–0 victory over Busoga College in the FEASSA final, Cardinal Otunga have ended their campaign at the summit of East African school rugby in Morogoro, Tanzania.
