The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is described as the world’s first and most comprehensive university ranking system dedicated to measuring sustainability and environmental performance in institutions of higher learning.
The latest recognition highlights Bomet University’s growing focus on sustainability, including initiatives aimed at promoting environmental conservation, green practices and community engagement. University officials said the achievement affirms the institution’s distinct niche in the green economy and demonstrates its commitment to integrating sustainability into its teaching, research and community outreach programmes.

The university said the recognition also reflects its efforts to protect the environment while equipping students with knowledge and skills relevant to sustainable development.
The UI GreenMetric ranking evaluates universities based on various sustainability-related areas, including infrastructure and setting, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation, and education and research.
Bomet University’s performance in the 2026 ranking comes as universities increasingly embrace environmental sustainability as part of their core academic and institutional responsibilities.
