Teachers in Bomet County have congratulated Mary Rotich following her election as the National Assistant Treasurer of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
Rotich, who currently serves as the KUPPET Kericho branch Executive Secretary, secured a decisive victory over Lynette Kamadi, the Mombasa Branch Executive Secretary, and garnering 1,367 votes against Kamadi’s 644 votes in a hotly contested national election at Kasarani Indoor Arena yesterday.
Her election has been widely celebrated across the South Rift region, with Bomet teachers terming it a win not only for Kericho County but also for the wider neighboring counties.
Rotich hails from Kericho County, which borders Bomet, strengthening regional ties within the union’s leadership.
Led by KUPPET Bomet Executive Secretary Paul Kimeto and Chairman Emmanuel Ngeno, the officials described Rotich as a seasoned, consistent and visionary leader whose rise through the ranks reflects dedication and service.
Paul Kimeto lauded Rotich’s steady leadership journey within the union, noting that her victory was well deserved.
“Mary Rotich has demonstrated commitment and integrity throughout her years of service. From serving as Gender Secretary between 2013 and 2016, to Chairperson from 2016 to 2021 and later Executive Secretary from 2021 to 2026, she has remained focused on advancing teachers’ welfare,” Kimeto said.
He added that her experience at the branch level will greatly enrich the National Executive Board.

“Her exposure to grassroots issues gives her a clear understanding of teachers’ challenges. We are confident she will safeguard union resources prudently and ensure accountability at the national level,” he stated.
On his part, Emmanuel Ngeno described Rotich’s win as a proud moment for the South Rift region, noting that the overwhelming margin of victory reflected the trust and confidence teachers across the country have in her leadership abilities.
“Her journey in KUPPET has been marked by resilience, inclusivity, and transparency. She has grown within the union structures and understands its constitution and financial systems. That institutional memory is critical in the position of National Assistant Treasurer,” Ngeno said.
Ngeno further noted that Rotich’s triumph sends a strong message about the power of consistency and service.
“This victory is not by chance. It is a product of years of hard work and close engagement with members at the grassroots,” he added.
He expressed optimism that Rotich will strengthen financial oversight and champion programs that directly benefit teachers.
“As Bomet teachers, we stand in solidarity with her and pledge our full support as she takes up this national responsibility,” Ngeno remarked.
Ngeno further noted that Rotich has been a vocal advocate for the autonomy of Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers.
“Mary has consistently championed the full recognition and autonomy of JSS teachers within the union framework. She believes that JSS educators deserve clear representation, proper deployment structures, and equal opportunities just like other teachers,” he stated.
He expressed hope that her elevation to national office will strengthen that push.
“Now that she is in the national office, we believe she will continue to fight for the autonomy and full integration of JSS teachers until it is fully realized. We trust that she will use her position to ensure their concerns are addressed decisively,” Ngeno added.
Rotich will serve as National Assistant Treasurer for the 2026–2031 term.
