The Bomet County Secondary Schools Sports Association, together with the County Director of Education, is set to deliver a key ruling on June 22, 2026, regarding the disputed girls’ volleyball final between reigning county champions Cheptalal Girls Secondary School and Kaboson Girls Secondary School.
The match, played at Bomet IAAF Stadium, was abandoned during the fourth set following chaotic scenes that disrupted play and led to confusion over the official result.
Reports indicate that the final scoreline may have been altered after the disruption, further deepening the controversy surrounding the fixture.
According to initial accounts, tension escalated when a Cheptalal player was allegedly attacked by Kaboson supporters, forcing match officials to halt the game on safety grounds.
The incident sparked disorder within and outside the playing area, leaving the outcome unresolved.
Officials to determine next action
The sports association is now expected to determine the validity of the match result, establish responsibility for the disturbance and decide whether disciplinary action will be taken or a replay ordered in accordance with school sports regulations.
Education stakeholders in the county have expressed concern over rising cases of indiscipline during school competitions, warning that such incidents undermine the spirit of fair play and the development of youth sports.
Cheptalal and Kaboson girls’ teams are known for their strong volleyball rivalry, often drawing large crowds and high expectations.
However, officials have reiterated that safety and discipline remain a priority in all competitions.
