The Body of a 16-year-old boy has been retrieved from a dam in Sengani, Matungulu Sub County in Machakos County.

The boy who was a form three student at Kyamulendu high school in Tala is said to have gone swimming in the dam in the company of other boys when he drowned.

An eye-witness told education news that the boys were competing to cross the dam when tragedy struck.
“We were in a nearby home having a fellowship when one boy came running.

He explained that another boy they were swimming with had drowned.
He told us that they were crossing to the other side but in the middle, he got stuck and drowned and efforts to save him had proven futile, “said the witness.

Tala location Chief Francis Mulinge confirmed the incident saying it happened on Monday but the body was retrieved on Tuesday.

He urged parents to know their kids’ whereabouts and discourage them from swimming in rivers and dams around.

“Dams are deep and dangerous to children, parents should not let their children who are on holiday go swimming, “said the chief.
