Alupe University in Busia County has announced the suspension of all classes today to allow students and staff to participate in the institution’s Fresher’s Day celebrations.
In a memo issued by the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic, Research and Student Affairs (ARSA), Prof. Margaret N.B. Orina, the university administration stated that the event will commence at 9:00 a.m. and will involve both students and staff.
“This is to bring to our attention that there will be suspension of classes on 24th October 2025. This is because on this day we shall be having Fresher’s Day and the programme will run from 9.00 a.m. We expect staff to be present since the event will involve both students and staff,” the memo reads in part.

The annual Fresher’s Day is a key event in the university calendar, organized to officially welcome first-year students and help them integrate into campus life.
It provides an opportunity for the newcomers to interact with university leadership, faculty, and student leaders while learning about the institution’s values, academic expectations, and extracurricular opportunities.
The DVC’s circular, copied to the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (AFD), and Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR), underscores the administration’s commitment to fostering a vibrant academic and social environment for all students.
Fresher’s Day is often marked by entertainment, speeches, and interactive sessions designed to motivate students to embrace discipline, hard work, and unity as they begin their academic journey at Alupe University.
