Magoha: Government will pay artisans tomorrow

By Hillary Muhalya

Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has assured artisans who were tasked to supply desks for primary and secondary schools that the government will begin paying them this Friday.

While touring Psigirio Primary and Mnagei Secondary School in West Pokot the CS said the government is working round the clock to ensure that the economic stimulus package is fully implemented.

CS Magoha affirmed that he has toured a number of schools across the country and the desks meet the threshold.

“The desks seen are of high quality, the local artisans have done a superb job and their payment will be ready by the end of this week,” said the CS.

Prof Magoha noted that most of the schools have infrastructure challenges but the Ministry of Education will disburse funds to set up classes in compliance with the president’s directive.

Magoha added that he has toured over 100 schools across the country and congratulated all teachers for ensuring that learners are observing Covid-19 protocols.

“Every school has gone yonder, whether with notice or not, to find teachers engaging students. As far as am concerned life must continue but we must follow Covid-19 protocols. The virus is strange but we need to be very cautious,” he said.

He added that it will be inconsiderable for learners to stay at home for years because of the virus hence urged education stakeholders to learn to stay with it under prescribed control.

Magoha pointed out that the government is set to build 12, 500 classrooms by 2022.

Magoha was accompanied by education stakeholders from the Ministry of Health and West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello.

Defending himself from the ‘idiot’ slur remarks, Magoha said no one is perfect thus everyone at his place of work should put rules and regulations to achieve the projected target.
