The Ministry of Education and the Hungarian Government has signed a new memorandum of understanding on the Inter-Ministerial Memorandum of Understanding on the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme for the years 2021-2023.
The cooperation signed offers 100 scholarships annually for Kenyan students to study in various universities in Hungary at various study levels which include; 20 scholarships annually for undergraduate (BA/BSc) studies in the fields of Agricultural Science, Computer Science and Information Technology, Economic Science, Engineering Science, Health Science, Sport Science and Natural Science, 40 scholarships annually for graduate (MA/MSc) studies in the fields of Agricultural Science, Computer Science and Information Technology, Legal Science, Economic Science, Engineering Science, medical and Health Science and Natural Science, 20 scholarships annually for full Doctoral (PhD/DLA) studies in any field of interest, 20 scholarships annually for one‑tier master’s (OTM) studies in the fields of general medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, architecture, and veterinary medicine.
Principal Secretary for University Education and Research Amb Simon Nabukwesi said at the signing ceremony that the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships which is based on an effective bilateral educational cooperation agreement has over the years provided Kenyan students opportunities to acquire quality university education adding that it will promote cooperation between the two countries in the areas of science, research and innovation.
The PS noted that the programme has become very attractive and popular to Kenyan students due to the quality of education, the international recognition of qualifications, the attitudes of the Hungarian people to the international students, the variety of degree programmes offered by the institutions among other reasons. He noted that the scholarships address Kenya’s big four agenda namely; Affordable Housing, Universal Health Care, Manufacturing and Food Security by providing skilled personnel.
Amb Nabukwesi thanked the Hungarian Government for their continued support which has developed into a long term and strategic partnership between the two countries. “We are committed to working better, and more closely, towards common goals – the pursuit of holistic education, the availability of international opportunities, and research programs which will ensure graduates will become successful individuals in their selected careers” said the PS.
It is our sincere wish that this day will be an opening of bright future possibilities for all of us. We strongly hope our coming together today is not for a mere signing of an agreement, but rather a step towards shaping the future world added the PS.
Among those who witnessed the MOU signing ceremony include Ms Oryolya Pacsay-Tomassich, the State Secretary for the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy and the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme who hailed the cooperation between Kenya and Hungary will enhance culture and enlighten students. She said Hungary will provide support to enhance the foreign services academy. Also present was Ambassador Zsolt Mészáros, the Hungary Ambassador to Kenya.
