43,000 BOM teachers to be paid this Friday

More than 43,000 teachers employed by the Boards of Management will receive their stipends from tomorrow.

However, beneficiaries must be registered teachers by the Teachers Service Commission and have been working by March 15th 2020.

According to Education officials, teachers who did not attach valid bank details will miss out on the stipends.

Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang’ affirmed that the funds have been cleared for release after the Ministry of Education verified the list of 43,000 beneficiaries submitted by head teachers.

To ensure transparency and reduce cases of malpractice, every recipient of the money must sign and the school head countersigns since records must be kept for auditing purposes.

While in Murang’a County, Education Chief Administrative Secretary Zackary Kinuthia said the list had been inflated to 126,000.

A number of school heads submitted names of serving and retired teachers as well as dead ones, friends outside teaching profession and board members listed as instructors.

BOM teachers have gone without pay since March when schools were closed to avert the spread of Coronavirus on March 13th 2020.

Having gone for months without pay, a good number of these teachers have were forced to indulge in mundane jobs as a way of making ends meet.

The budget to pay the teachers is part of the Sh15.4 billion the government has set aside for public schools to enable them prepare ahead of re-opening.

  1. What about teachers who have been teaching in private schools and have not been receiving anything since March, are yhey not Kenyans and registered with TSC starting from ECDE.
