The fourth and final phase of implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) saw the highest-paid teacher receive an additional salary of about Sh10,000. At the same time, the lowest-paid took home an additional reward of Sh676.
The highest-paid Chief Principal in grade D5, T Scale 15 and the lowest teachers in grade B5 T Scale 5 did not receive any salary hike.
In the list by the Teachers Service Commission and in possession of Education News, the teachers, alongside those in grade C1 T Scale 6, received a pay hike during the first two phases of the implementation of the CBA.
The CBA, negotiated between the Teachers Service Commission and teacher unions was signed in October 26th 2016 and was implemented in four phases effective July 1st 2017 and June 1st 2021.
Following the implementation of the 4th phase of the CBA, the lowest-paid Chief Principal will take home Sh131,380 per month, an increase from Sh121,814.
The highest-paid Chief Principal in grade D5 T Scale 15 takes home Sh157,656, the same earned in the last month of the third phase of the CBA.
The lowest-paid Senior Principal at grade D4 T Scale 14 will pocket a basic monthly salary of Sh118,242 compared to Sh109,249, while the highest will earn Sh121,890 an improvement from Sh118,169.
Principals and Deputy Principal I in grade D2, T Scale 13 will earn Sh104,644 per month, compared to three salary points of Sh93,850, Sh96,745 and Sh102,807 they previously earned.
Deputy Principal II, Senior Master I and Senior Lecturer in grade D2 T Scale 12 will earn Sh91,041, an improvement from the Sh82,717 and Sh87,900 they received in the previous phase. The two salary points were merged into one.
The lowest-paid Senior Master II, Deputy Principal III/Senior Head Teacher/Senior Lecturer II/Curriculum Support Officer I in grade D1 T-Scale 11 will take home Sh77,840 compared to Sh74,703 earned in the third phase of the CBA
The highest-paid in this category will see their monthly payments go up to Sh85,269, an increase from the Sh80,242 and Sh82,717 they pocketed.
Senior Master III/Senior Lecturer III/Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher I and Curriculum Support Officer II in grade C5 T Scale 10 are also among the lucky teachers who received a pay hike.
The lowest-paid will see their salary increase from Sh51,632 per month to Sh62,272 per month while the highest saw their pay increase to 64,631 compared to the Sh62,272 earned last.
Besides, the CBA harmonised the five salary points for the above group and merged them into one where they earn Sh62,272 per month.
Senior Master IV/Senior Lecturer IV/SNE Senior Teacher-Primary/SNE Teacher I-Secondary/Deputy Head Teacher II at grade C4 T Scale 9 were also not left behind in the salary increase.
The lowest paid in the category will pocket Sh52,308 compared to Sh45,287 they earned, while the highest will take home Sh55,604 compared to Sh52,308.
The CBA also harmonised the first four salary points to one where the highest will earn Sh52,308 compared to the varying salaries earned last.
Secondary Teacher I/Lecturer I/SNE Teacher I-Primary/SNE Teacher II-Secondary/Senior Teacher I at grade C3 T Scale 8 will also benefit. The lowest paid in this category will take home Sh43,154 from Sh38,531 while the highest will pocket Sh53,943 compared to the Sh51,927 they earned during the last month of the third phase of the CBA.
Besides, the nine salary points for teachers in this grade have been merged into one and will take home a maximum of Sh43,154 per month.
A section of Secondary Teacher II/Secondary Teacher I-UT graduate/Secondary Teacher II-Technical certificate/SNE Teacher II-Primary/Lecturer II/Senior Teacher II in grade C2 T Scale 7 will receive a pay hike leaving out others.
For example, the lowest paid at Sh31,242 and highest-paid at Sh34,955 will earn a similar salary of Sh34,955 per month.
The rest of the teachers in other salary points in this grade who earned higher salaries will, however not receive a pay rise.
Secondary Teacher III/Secondary Teacher III-UT Certificate/Lecturer III/Primary Teacher I, and Primary Teacher II in grade C1 T Scale 6, are among teachers who did not receive any pay rise in the 4th phase of the CBA.
The house allowance, hardship allowance and commuter allowance for the teachers remained the same during the implementation of the 4th phase of the CBA.
