The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUHN) donated face masks, hand washing soap and sanitizers to be distributed to 2,000 vendors operating at the City Park Market.

The items were handed over to the City Park Market Committee by Dr Twahir Majid, the Chief of staff at Aga Khan University Hospital. Personnel from the Hospital sensitised the vendors on proper hand hygiene and correct wearing of masks as deterrence against community spread of the virus.

Dr Majid, said, “The simple measures of regular washing of hands with soap and clean water, or use of hand sanitizers, wearing a face mask in public and social distancing are the key ways of keeping Covid-19 at bay.”

“This donation is intended to help those within our vicinity as they go about their daily businesses and ensure they have every opportunity to protect their health and wellness, their loved ones and their neighbours,” said Dr Majid.

“We must all work together to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 by taking measures to protect ourselves and those around us.” Dr Majid added.

AKUHN has taken various safety measures to provide a safe environment for all patients, visitors and staff. Everyone visiting the facilities (the Hospital and clinics) is screened on entry and their temperature is checked.

Anyone entering the hospital must be in a mask and sanitize hands before entering the facility. Other measures include; setting aside facilities to take care of COVID-19 patients separate from other patients care areas, 24-hour decontamination and sterilization of spaces, surfaces and equipment and social distancing measures including increasing the capacity of waiting areas and limiting the number of visitors to the wards to one (next of kin) for a maximum of 30 minutes.
