KUPPET National Vice Chair Julius Korir has urged the Ministry of Education (MoE) to improve sports facilities in education institutions.
Korir said many institutions in Kenya lack adequate sports facilities to enable learners properly nurture their sports talent.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Championships held in Nakuru, Korir said despite using humble facilities, students have excelled in various sporting disciplines.
The Unionist said it is the core duty of the government through the Ministry of Education, National Treasury and the National Assembly to ensure all education institutions are equipped.
He also asked the government to mind the welfare of teachers who dedicate their time and other resources through the zonal, sub-county, county, regional, national and East Africa levels of games activities.
“We request the government to ensure they fully take care of all teachers who participate in co-curricular activities like sports because they devote a lot of their energy, skills and talents to ensure students reach as high as East Africa sports competitions,” said Korir.
