Elgeyo Marakwet County governor Wisley Rotich has formed a committee to oversee the establishment of Kerio Valley University, the first university in the region.
The governor nominated 15 individuals to serve in the committee on a voluntary basis to develop a roadmap towards the attainment of the vision.
Those who were nominated include: Prof Some (Expert), Prof Paul Kimurto (Egerton University), Dr Rispher Maccs Berem (Chair county Education Board), Dr Wilson K Kipkore (University of Eldoret), Dr Luka Kuto (Moi University), Dr Maureen Cheserek (Egerton University), Prof Paul Tarus (UOE), Dr Christopher Saina (UOE), Prof John K Changach (Moi University), Dr Philip Chumo (Moi University) and Prof Thomas Cheruiyot ( Moi University).
Others are Netty Chemutai (Community), Mildred Chepkonga (Mt Kenya University) and Samuel Kipchumba(secretariat).
The governor added that the committee will evaluate the technical inspection report by the commission on University Education dated 15th August 2016.
They will also undertake public participation on the establishment of the university as required by law, assess the readiness of Tambach Teachers Training College to host the proposed Kerio Valley University, ascertain the availability of donated land at Mokoro Location Endo Ward and make recommendations on the best way to revive the establishment of the proposed university.
The committee will be guided by the Universities Act 2012, Education Act 2014, TVETA Act 2013 among other legal statutes.
They are expected to submit their report within 30 days from 7th September 2022.
