Tetu MP James Gichuhi has pledged to have the Wandumbi Special School in Tetu Constituency, Nyeri County to be supported through NG-CDF in the next financial year.
The MP spoke when he visited the school recently and shared a meal with the learners.
The money will go a long way in addressing some of the challenges facing the institution.
According to the school’s BOM Vice Chairman Mugo Matu the school, started in 1984, faces various challenges such as transport and lack of laundry machines among others.
Matu said during wet seasons, the children soil their clothes and, therefore, need a machine that can clean and dry their clothes and bedding so as to keep them warm.
“We have been looking for a donor who can give us a vehicle for transportation as the children get sick and may need to be transported to hospital,” he said
The school bus, he said, can also help take the children for tours to national parks so that they can feel like any other child as they also enjoy travelling.
He said the children are people who cannot express themselves making it difficult to communicate and say exactly where they are experiencing pain.
The school also needs a sick bay and a nurse to look after them and ensure they are treated when sick.
“This is to ensure that they can be isolated from others and be treated before they can eventually be taken to hospital. So we require a sick bay to be put up within the compound,” he said.
The school has 124 learners.
It started with temporary structures but has managed to improve by building permanent structures including dorms and classes with assistance from international donors.
