Long-distance champion runs for girls’ education

Kenyan athletics champion Philemon Cheboi from Baringo County run in the historic 2018 Bay to Breakers foot race in San Francisco (USA).
Cheboi is the winner of the 2017 Bay to Breakers race.
The race is meant to raise funds towards girls’ education. “When you educate girls, you make equal opportunities in society and community,” said Cheboi.
Team Daraja, a group of runners in the US will also run twelve kilometres to fundraise for Daraja Academy, a private, secondary girls’ school located outside Nanyuki.
The academy provides full boarding scholarships to every student.
Daraja Academy has graduated 177 students since 2009, 80per cent of which have qualified for college and university.
