161 school heads moved away from County

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has delocalised a total of 161 principals and head teachers in Meru County with the most notable personality being the Meru National School Principal Silas Mwirigi.
Meru County TSC Director Juliet Kariuki  said Mwirigi swapped places with his Kagumo High school counterpart Kiwira Kariuki during the second phase of the delocalisation exercise.
Speaking to the media in Meru town moments after Mwirigi handed over the office to the new principal Kariuki termed the transfers and especially the swapping of places of the duo as normal and devoid of any influence. “Mwirigi has been transferred to Kagumo High school in Nyeri County. They have swapped places with the outgoing Kagumo High school Principle Kiwara Kariuki There is an ongoing countrywide delocalisation exercise which is in its second phase”, she said.
A total of 161 head teachers including 36 in secondary and 125 in primary schools have been moved so this term. Mwirigi falls under this category of teachers who were posted to other counties when the schools reopened”, said County TSC Director.
She denied allegations that the principal was moved after the Meru National School hosted the Meru Youth Service (MYS) training seminar at the institution during the April holidays which led to the delay of the reopening of the school in second term.
Kariuki said that some schools like Alliance Boys’ High have a tradition of always opening and closing on Thursdays noting that many schools follow such practices to the letter regardless of the official opening date.
“I am not aware of any Meru Youth Service event which led to the delay and it did not influence the transfer in any way. It is the normal delocalisation which is being done in phases”, said Kariuki.
