Kilifi County Government has set a side Sh350 million as bursaries to assist bright and needy students.
Prof Gabriel Katana, county minister in charge of Education, told Education News they had prioritized on improving education standards in the region.
He said quality education will ensure sustainable development and urged stakeholders to co-operate.
Prof Katana, a former lecturer at Pwani University, said teamwork will improve performance in national examinations which had been dismal in the past few years.
At the same time, the minister lamented that many students were still sitting on stones, logs and dusty floors while learning due to lack of desks and classrooms, especially in the rural primary schools in the county.
He said there will be no bright secondary school student from a poor family who will stay at home in the area due to lack of school fees.
He urged parents in the county to come forward and apply for bursaries for their children to enable them pursue education.
The minister however warned parents who will refuse to take their children to school that they will be arrested and charged.
