The dream of over 400 pupils to pursue education and better their future lies in the balance after allegedly the Kenya Defense Forces threatened to evict them from the school and demolish it.
The 400 pupils at Kisima Primary school in Ngaremara Location, Muthara Ward in Tigania East Constituency of the Meru County are now staring at a bleak and uncertain future following the threats which caught both the leaders and the residents unawares.
Kisima Primary School which is on the border of Meru and Isiolo counties is the only primary school in the area with education stakeholders worried over the academic fate of their children in case the KDF succeeds in evicting them.
Also staring at an uncertain future are the 25 Form One students of the newly established Kisima Day secondary school and 750 needy children from the locality who are currently being sponsored by the Compassion International to pursue education at primary, secondary and college levels.
The sponsor said due to insecurity issues the children cannot be able to trek to and from Ramadhani Primary School in Isiolo County which is about 3 Kms away. The education stakeholders started raising concerns after the KDF allegedly started laying claims to 7,600 hectares of land while alleging that they were allocated the land.
The military had already started demolishing some houses belonging to the residents in a bid to intimidate and scare them into complying with the eviction idea.
“425 children risk dropping out of school while another 750 needy children may lose their education sponsorship if the KDF manages to take our land. I urge all the leaders and especially the area MP Josphat Gichunge and Muthara MCA to intervene and ensure that we are not evicted from our land and school,” a resident said.
