Kajiado Governor Joseph Lenku has challenged education stakeholders in the county to strengthen collaboration in a bid to improve academic performance and literacy among learners.
Speaking during his annual round-table consultation with education stakeholders at Olkejuado High School, Lenku said sustained engagement among school heads, Boards of Management (BOM), parents, government officials and teachers’ unions had contributed to the improvement of academic results in the county.
The meeting brought together headteachers, BOM chairpersons, Parents Association chairpersons, officials from the Ministry of Education and Teachers Service Commission (TSC), as well as representatives of teachers’ unions.
Lenku said the latest meeting was a continuation of consultations held at NITA in Kitengela over the past three years, which he said had contributed to the overall improvement in academic performance.

He said the number of students attaining university qualifications in the county had increased from 1,984 in 2022 to 3,049 in 2025, representing a 54 per cent rise.
“The strategic meetings have contributed to the general overall improvement of grades in the county,” Lenku said.
During the meeting, the county also launched Foundational Literacy Reading Clubs in all comprehensive schools. The clubs will be chaired by headteachers and are intended to strengthen reading skills among learners at an early stage.
Lenku said improving foundational literacy was critical in laying a strong academic foundation for learners and called on school administrators, parents and teachers to support the initiative.

The governor was accompanied by County Director of Education Dr Martin Cheruiyot, County TSC Director Rosemary Sokotian, County Executive Committee Member for Education Janet Sereu, Education Chief Officer Isaac Naayio, Kajiado KNUT Executive Secretary Elly Korinko and KUPPET Executive Secretary Martin Koikai.
The stakeholders reviewed the progress made in the education sector and discussed strategies for sustaining improvements in academic performance across the county.
