A charitable organisation in Matungulu Constituency has pledged to continue offering scholarships, supporting persons living with disabilities and equipping youth with technical skills as part of efforts to alleviate poverty in the region.
Simon Kathumo Foundation has been offering scholarships in nursing in partnership with the Aga Khan University Hospital, its founder, Mr Simon Kathumo, said during the burial ceremony of the late retired teacher Winfred Mbithe at Kijito village in Matungulu Constituency.
Mr Kathumo said students who scored grades B+ and A in KCSE and wish to pursue nursing and medicine courses can approach the foundation for assistance.
“We give scholarships in conjunction with the Aga Khan University Hospital. Those with grades B+ and A can get scholarships to pursue Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Medicine and Surgery at the Aga Khan University,” Mr Kathumo said.
Foundation targets vulnerable groups
Kathumo, who is an aspirant for the Matungulu parliamentary seat, said his foundation has also been supporting persons with disabilities with wheelchairs and crutches, accusing the current leadership of neglecting them.
“We are also equipping young mothers with basic skills in tailoring, electrical installation and plumbing in order to support their households,” said Mr Kathumo.
He challenged political aspirants to showcase their track record and concrete deeds to the electorate so that residents can choose leaders based on proven service delivery.
