- The Dean of Students has outlined a list of prohibited clothing items, including mini-skirts, ripped jeans, sagging trousers and plastic footwear.
- University staff have been directed not to serve students dressed indecently, as the administration moves to enforce the new rules.
Moi University has issued a fresh directive on students’ dress code, warning that those who breach the institution’s regulations could face disciplinary action.
In an internal memo dated September 22, 2026, the Dean of Students, Dr Alice Mutai, reminded all students of Article 3.1.1 (a), (c), (d) and (e) of the Rules and Regulations Governing the Conduct and Discipline of Students. The university said students are expected to dress decently in modest and appropriate attire while on campus.
The directive follows what the administration described as concerns over inappropriate dressing by some students.
According to the memo, the university has prohibited micro and mini-skirts, skin-tight trousers, ragged, torn or ripped jeans, and low-cut blouses or dresses. Also prohibited are revealing or transparent dresses and attire that expose bra straps, sleeveless T-shirts, T-shirts bearing obscene writings, sagging trousers and clothing that exposes the chest. The institution further stated that slippers, Crocs and all plastic shoes are not considered official university wear and should not be worn on campus.

“All students should desist from inappropriate dressing while at the University as this may result in disciplinary action,” the memo states.
The Dean of Students also directed university staff not to serve students who are dressed indecently, as the administration moves to enforce the dress code.
The directive comes as universities continue to enforce institutional regulations governing student conduct, discipline and appropriate behaviour within campus environments.
