The Ministry of Education has launched a new online service through the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) that allows parents and Grade 9 learners to verify the Senior School choices and subject combinations submitted during the national Grade 10 selection exercise.
For families waiting anxiously to confirm whether their children’s preferred schools were captured correctly, the new “My Selections” facility provides a direct way to check the information held in the system without relying on intermediaries. Using the learner’s Grade 9 assessment number, parents can retrieve the selection record and review the schools and subject combinations entered during the exercise.
The service is available through the KEMIS Grade 10 Selection and Placement portal, and comes at a critical stage in Kenya’s transition to Senior School under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework.
To verify a learner’s record, parents are advised to visit the official KEMIS portal and avoid unofficial websites or individuals claiming to have special access to the system. Once on the portal, users can click on “My Selections” to retrieve the learner’s submitted choices, then enter the Grade 9 assessment number exactly as provided, checking every digit carefully, since an incorrect number may prevent the record from being retrieved. The system will then display the Senior School choices and subject combinations submitted for the learner, including their order of preference, allowing parents to confirm that the information matches what was originally selected. Parents are advised to download and safely store the selection confirmation slip once the details have been checked, as proof of the choices submitted through the official system.

Parents who want to verify the selections should follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the official KEMIS portal
Go to the KEMIS Grade 10 Selection and Placement portal.
Parents should use the official government portal and avoid unofficial websites or individuals claiming to have special access to the system.
Step 2: Click “My Selections”
The option enables users to retrieve the learner’s submitted Senior School choices.
Step 3: Enter the assessment number
Enter the learner’s Grade 9 assessment number exactly as provided.
Parents should check every digit before submitting the request because an incorrect assessment number may prevent the record from being retrieved.
Step 4: Examine the selections
The system will display the Senior School choices and subject combinations submitted for the learner, including their order of preference.
Parents should carefully examine the information and confirm that it corresponds with what was selected.
Step 5: Download the confirmation slip
Once the information has been checked, download and safely store the selection confirmation slip.
Keeping a copy provides parents with a record of the choices submitted through the official system.
However, the Ministry has issued a clear caution: seeing a school listed on the KEMIS selection page does not mean the learner has already been placed in that school. The current service only allows parents to confirm what was selected; final placement is a separate stage that follows the selection exercise. Parents have therefore been urged not to assume that the first school appearing on the list, or any other preferred school, is automatically the learner’s Grade 10 destination, and should instead wait for the Ministry’s official placement communication before making reporting arrangements.

The Grade 10 transition marks the movement from Junior School into Senior School under the CBE structure, with learners pursuing one of three broad pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts and Sports Science. Within these pathways are different subject combinations intended to help learners develop areas of interest and prepare for further education, training and careers, making the choices made during the selection exercise an important part of the transition process.
Parents urged to avoid unofficial agents
With placement exercises attracting intense public interest, parents have also been warned to be cautious of individuals claiming they can manipulate selections, secure specific schools or guarantee placement.
The official KEMIS service does not require parents to pay agents to access their records, and families have been advised against sharing assessment numbers and other learner information with unverified individuals.
